There's all kinds of reasons to make your own wine at Central Street Farmhouse. For one thing, you don't have to purchase, troubleshoot, and clean all kinds of brewing equipment. Then there's the level of expertise we offer -- we've been making our own wine for years, so you can rest assured that the final product will be great. And, well, heck, we like to think that we're a fun bunch of people to be around -- with any luck, your wine class here will be not only educational, but also kind of a hoot.
So how does it work? The majority of our wine ingredient kits make 6 gallons of wine, which translates to approximately 27 full-size (750ml) bottles. (Note that we offer wine classes for the 6 gallon kits; other kits are take home only.) You can make virtually any wine varietal, and a wide variety of blends, from Merlot and Malbec to Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling. Browse our full list of wine kits here.
On the day you make your wine with us, we'll go over the process step-by-step and mix up your batch to get it ready for fermentation. It will ferment here at the store for 8 weeks, and then you'll return to bottle your wine and take it home. When you come back to bottle, you have the option of recycling used bottles or purchasing new bottles from us. If you bring your own bottles from home, we ask that they are completely clean (no need to sanitize them; we will do that here).
What is the cost? We don't charge a fee for our classes; you simply pay for the price of the wine kit. Our kits range in price from $80 to $170, with the most popular in the $95-140 range. We charge a $20 bottling fee per batch, which includes your corks; if you purchase at least half of your bottles from us, we reduce the bottling fee to $10. Green and clear Bordeaux-style bottles are available to purchase for $16.50/case, and other bottles are available by special order.
Who can make wine here at our store? Come by yourself, bring a friend, or bring a bunch of friends -- our maximum capacity for a winemaking group is 10 people. We book our classes during store hours (10am-6pm Monday-Saturday, and seasonally 10am-3pm Sunday) by appointment only -- please call us at (207) 992-4454 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule your class. We request that you make at least 1 wine kit for every 2 people in attendance.
Is there a list of the kits you carry, along with descriptions? Yep -- check out the various product lines we carry from Winexpert. If you want to make a specific kit with us, please call to check availability and understand that it may take a few weeks for us to get it in stock.
